UP Scientific Productivity System (SPS) About the Program The UP Scientific Productivity System (SPS) was approved by the Board of Regents in its 1199th meeting in August 2005. The SPS aims to: (1) support the development of science and technology and (2) encourage and reward scientific productivity. Invention Disclosure Incentive (IDI)
Invention Disclosure Incentive (IDI) About the Incentive Your research can make a difference to society. This is why the University is here to help you bring it out of the lab and into the marketplace. When you disclose your invention to the Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) of your campus, you make your technology better prepared for application and commercial use. You also support the University in protecting intellectual property rights – and wherever intellectual property is recognized and respected, researchers and inventors are inspired to develop more new useful products and processes. Moreover, you become eligible for the Invention Disclosure Incentive (IDI), a monetary award given to a researcher, faculty member, student, staff or visiting professor who reports the existence of a research or invention and assigns the patent and other related rights to the University in accordance with the UP Intellectual Property Rights Policy. The program, project grant, or contract leading to the invention must be under the auspices of the University. You will receive 40,000 pesos per invention, which will be released in two tranches: 15,000 pesos after the disclosure is assessed and accepted, and 25,000 pesos once the patent is filed. The IDI was approved by the UP Board of Regents during its 1305th meeting on 29 January 2015 while its implementing guidelines were endorsed by the UP System Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) Executive Committee led by the TTO directors of different constituent units. With the IDI, the University hopes to encourage early disclosure of innovations, reward the diligence of inventors through the patenting and technology transfer process, and enlarge and enhance its intellectual property portfolio.
